How it Started

Hi! I'm Tyler. My real estate journey started in 2016, when I was frustrated by the financial road I was heading down. At that time, I had my "dream job" in the sports industry and my "dream car" in the driveway, but I saw a life that wasn't financially healthy. After paying my bills every month, I had little left over to build for the future. I knew that if I continued down that path, I'd be working long hours until the age of 65 to hopefully reach retirement. I dreaded the thought of not having time freedom and life flexibility at an earlier age.
I had to make a change, create additional income sources, and make my money work for me ASAP. It all started by immersing myself in financial podcasts, attending business conferences, and consciously networking with investors. That's how I was introduced to the world of real estate investing. So, I took the leap, purchased my first property, and officially became an investment property owner in my 20s.
My first property provided the greatest investing education I could have ever received. I had to manage everything remotely with it being 2,000+ miles away from my home (in the SF Bay Area). I got it to cash flow for 11 straight months, and then it became unexpectedly vacant! Then I found a squatter in the garage, $16,000 worth of repairs needed, and a beat-down confidence. But, with every massive mistake and challenge, I gained valuable lessons and was determined to get better. I went on to purchase two more properties on my own in that same market.

Scale and Growth
In 2018, having acquired three properties at that point, I told myself it was time to scale and THINK BIGGER. So I built strong relationships in the multifamily world and traveled around the country hunting for opportunities and deals! My multifamily investment portfolio quickly grew by partnering and investing in two deals where I really got my feet wet in the multifamily value-add sector:
-80-unit in Louisville, KY (acquired 2018, exited 2021)
-164-unit in Phoenix, AZ (acquired 2019, exited 2021)
Those two deals were pivotal opportunities that lead me to where I am today and how Kenji Capital started.

Kenji Capital is Born
The greatest evolution of my real estate journey came in 2019, when I turned my investing experience, knowledge, and relationships into Kenji Capital. By strategically aligning with partners and bringing in equity investors, we buy and renovate apartment buildings, help people build wealth, and provide much-needed housing in supply-constrained markets. Since 2019, we've invested in four more multifamily deals and grown our portfolio in high-growth markets.
-94-unit in Phoenix, AZ (acquired 2019, exited 2021)
-12-unit in San Jose, CA (acquired 2020)
-12-unit in Sacramento, CA (acquired 2021)
-9-unit in Oakland, CA (acquired 2023)

Kenji Capital focuses on value-add multifamily investing in "A-class" locations. With a group of equity partners like you, we acquire under-valued apartment buildings, renovate them, and hold them for cash flow or sell them to lock in returns.
